Has anyone done a study to find out what, if anything the extra wires on a
quad reflector do for your ears or getting out. Why those particular size
wires? Why that many? Inquiring minds want to know!

Study up on antenna theory, those "wires" are the reflector element, it
can be any diameter of wire strong enough to not break. It won't do
anything for ears unless you happen to get your ear caught in it while
you are putting the antenna up, then you might get a painful cut. As
far as getting out, sure, everyone should get out once in awhile.
Staying at the house all the time gets pretty boring.

Hello Bruce: Your question is a little bit vague. Dales response is
even worse, that most of his replies.

Extra wires on a Moonraker or PDL quad antennas, refelector element,
will not increase the perrformance of these antennas. If fact added or
extra wire added to the refelector elements of these antennas will
severely reduce the beam pattern, resulting in lower gain and rejection.

I have run antenna modeling computer programs, (On Eznec) that started
with a Moonraker 4 element antenna, as the assembly instructions call
out the dimensions. The computer shows a beam pattern as expected. But
any configuration change to the refelector, results in a significant
reduction of antenna gain and rejection. Making the antenna almost omni
directional! Especally adding a wire trap door, or inside or outside
refelector wires.

God I hate getting posts from "Know-it-alls"

Note in the orginal post I said it was the REFELECTOR.
As far as ears go a reflector DOES increase the front to back signal ratio
thereby decreasing the amount of signal coming in from the rear of the
antenna. I was and and still am looking for the gage, length, and reason
for the "Kit" some vendors sell.

Oh well I guess even RADIOGODs are human, and far from humorus!

I tried it, didn't seem to help much. I did find out one thing if you
ever have a ice it will break everything down, so I'd say it's not worth
the trouble. Save your $

Double stringing the reflector on quad antennas seemed to become
popular arround the Pgh.Pa. area in the middle 70,s.The claim was
that it helped increase the rejection on the "back side"
Another "double string" trick was to add a wire halfway out
between the boom and reflector..Around that time Hy Gain introduced a
cubical quad antenna with a double strung reflector called
"Eliminator-2" . CB magazine gave it high praise. As far as ice is
concerned,In my experience usualy when someone has a moonraker or some
other monstrosity for an antenna the amount of rf they throw out
tends to keep the antenna rather warm.
