Don't worry about "smoking" the rigs. Modern CBs don't
use mechanical relays that can be damaged by grounding
the relay coil low side.

Unless you're running old SBEs you have nothing to worry
about.

l am sorry can't help too much but l have been wiring mics for over 25 years
doing the hit and miss approach and so far never burned anything up . Sometimes
it takes a while but l walk away and then get it to work . Make sure your
battery is good , that will save lots of time too .Hope you get it wired .

The Expander 500 had so much gain and compression that a common
mod was to deactivate one of it's gain stages. In other words,
a common mod on the Expander 500 was to make it less radical
than it was to begin with.

Doubtful anyone still around here since last post 1999, here goes anyway.

I have a MK2 Expander 500 mic with lock, it doesn't transmit loud enough, I believe there is a capacitor replacement that resolves the issue, example of one fitted 2.2uf 50volts, anyone got any help.

80's I changed a capacitor which did the job, unfortunately after so many years unable to recall which one or its value.
