Not around here they don't. Pirate boxes win most of the classes
at all the shoot-outs!!!

Brian,
If you are talking about amps made by "Sonny Day" in Detroit;
Yes!

However the Ohio boys are still winning the big classes. On larger amps the
big transformers, big combiners...really don't come into play. HoundDog
running a 96 pill (PacMan) literally killed Bam, and SkidRow in Memphis (not
even a buzz). If you notice none of the Dave guys run in any classes larger
than 16 pills.....strange isn't it......I wonder why?
Sonny builds pretty good boxes, however he is way too much in the "swing"
thing for me. I see very few of "his guys" running in contests. I beat one
of his sixteen pills with an 8. They run pretty good when you fix is output
turn ratio.
I'm glad to see some "non-MudDucks" in here, I was about to give up on the
'ole rec.radio.cb....

OOOH, my name is SEAN and I'm going to cum right now.
Just look at how Gun does in the contests, it speaks for itself......(damn
that almost sounded like an advertisement)
Tell Dave I want a kick back.....
The only AC box of Dave's I've heard is 925, who else is running an AC box
from Dave ?

Alan,
Unit #123 out of Kankakee,Il. is running one. He also is an Employee of
Dave's. He goes out east for a few months then cames back home for a few
weeks, etc.....
Unit 123 has total access to Dave and builds equipment for him so when
#123 built the unit for himself I suspect that it was supposed to be a
showpiece.
He is not getting his name called any better then folks in his area
using dx1600's.
#123 did very well in the last round of DC (not AC) keydowns in this
area. But #123 has always had a reputation for overvolting and
overdriving by so much that he had a behind the scenes nickname of 'Go
or Blow'.
(Which is a term borrowed from the old days of the street racers when
they used to really increase the percentage of Nitrous Oxide for their
last race.)
When he was building his own stuff, he had a reputation for having a
50-50 chance of blowing up every time he keyed down. Since he has been
working for Dave he is doing much better, more like 25-75......
Also,
If Dave's AC boxes were doing so well, your question would not have had
to have been asked, because you would be hearing those folks talking
from all over the country.
As far as Dave Made 'cosmetics' are concerned, I think the cases and
chassis boxes are as good as the best in the industry. That means he has
a good chassis supplier. I am disappointed by the quality of the
circuit boards and assembly as compared to what I saw 2 years ago when I
promoted Daves product to the CB dealers in this area. I also consider
the cooling of his new model 40 and 80 'modulators' to be perfect
examples of incredibly stupid engineering!

Don't know about TN shootout. Southern California is
where I attend the shoot-outs. My stats. are from being there, not
from hearsay...

My biggest complaint with Dave Made's (I own 2), is that they're class C
amps. I had to design my own bias circuit into it so that I could use
it on SSB. Now that it's running as a class AB, and with the proper
drive, you can't tell that it's on.

That almost sounds like someone that would know 24 or 210 in San Diego......
I knew Kenneth pretty well in the mid 80's....

Good for you! No matter what they say, AB is the way to go
for non-comp units.
I have an M-80 and an M-200. Proper drive on AM is a power level that
will give a carrier output that is 1/4 of the full power output, so to
allow full 100% modulation.
