This may or may not be usefull to you, but here goes. If you dont care
about a little extra work then do this. Smear Johnsons Paste Wax
liberaly onto the paint, install the antenna, and wipe up excess. Not
only do you get an extra barrier between the magnet and paint, but
you also seal the edge of the magnet that has a tendency to collect
grit.

For best results - wash the area well first - including the base of
the mag-mount, then apply a thick coat of wax to the bottom of the
mag-mount.
Even some glass cleaner or some type of spray cleaner - to clean the
roof - this helps prevent grime from embedding itself into the paint
from the pressure of the mounts magnets.
While the wax is still wet - place it on the roof. This provides some
protection and helps create a seal that won't allow moisture to
bother the paint or the mount. A cheap paste wax works - and it's
won't harm the paint finish - coat the edges liberally.
When taking it off, this is where most of th damage to the paint
occurs. Don't slide it around while you try and "pull-it" off - use a
"rolling motion" or simply grasp and use the base of the antenna at
the mount - and roll your wrist in a twisting motion, to lift the
edge of the magnet off and lift it at the same time.
It takes a little practice - try it a few times in another area or
even the home refridgerator to get an idea of how much pull it's
going to have to be used to lift the magnet off the car.
Once you have the "trick" down - you shouldn't have any problems.
Good luck. Hope this helps.
Regards!

o yea.. if it is going to melt the tape then it will melt your brain cells
too. hahahaha I can see by your spelling that it has already gone there.
hahahaha. I just love it in the summer when guys hang around outside cars and
can figure why their tooth fillings get hot when buddy keys up. hahahaha

a small piece of thin yet protective cloth or chamos. must be thin so as the
magnet still sticks at 80 mph yet protective enough for todays modern 2-stage
automotive finishes. when you have your protective fabric you may tape job it
to the base
or hell you can lay the antenna across the dash if you want, or hold it in your
left hand out the window, or cram it under the hood in the engine compartment,
or just drag it behind the car.
