My old Antron stood on a 70' tower thru Hurricane Opal which was
amazingly still a cat 3 hurricane when it's eye passed over
Montgomery, AL (normally hurricanes have already deterioriated into
nothing but a mass of thunderstorms by the time they reach that far
inland) I stepped outside and was looking at the antenna in between
rain bands and watched it get laid over parallel to the ground, then
when the wind gust died back a bit it'd stand right back up straight.
Only reason it's not still up there is I upgraded to stacked 3 element
beams.

Could someone tell me the max windspeed that the antron 99 antenna can
safely.

Thanks

Not sure what the absolute maximum is, OM, but I live in the

I agree with John. I am located in NE PA and had an antron 99 with 2 ground
plane kits withstand similiar wind speeds for many years. My antenna was
mounted on a 40 foot tower. It even survive the tornado we had last year with
wind gust around 100 mph.

Cheers for that I was just asking coz I have a realy small garden and if it

The maker does not list such specifications, so I can only go off
experience. About ten years ago, a Solacon A-99 made it through the
north side of Hurrican Hugo mounted on a forty foot pole less than a
mile from the beach (six guy wires on mast). A tree went down about
seventy-five feet away, but the antenna didn't. However, it did get
sandblasted a little.

In other words, its a fairly solid antenna.

Most reputable manufacturers design their antennas to withstand an 85 MPH
constant wind. I would think that the A99 could withstand such a wind
without damage to the antenna. BUT be sure that the mounting hardware and
the structure to which it is attached can withstand such stress. I've seen
antennas withstand very high winds only to be destroyed when the tower or
mast failed, sending the antenna flying into nearby trees or crashing to the
ground.

******

I use an A-99 here in holbrook, arizona
where winds sometimes reach gusts up to
100 miles an hour........not a problem!
The antenna is 80 feet to the top.

Hey Jack. You measure your antenna height from mounting to ground not to
the top of the antenna. Just for your info for next time.
