Absolutely, especially within the topic of the newsgroup. And with respect to
your question I'll quote from another of my posts on the very same topic; from
4387fvgp6l55e7ttr...@4ax.com:
"I have no problem with them returning to try and spread more of their
mythology, but I don't think they will be very sucessful:..."
Now I should probably provide YOU with a definition:
Bias = a mental leaning; pariality; prejudice; narrow-mindedness.
Now for MY question.......Tnom, do you prefer a newsgroup that is controlled by
a few tech-wannabes that promote illegal operation and give bad technical advice
to credulous people in order to boost their businesses?

How hard did you look for a knowledgable ham? Did you post on the ham group as I

You shouldn't have 11V on the filaments of a 6V tube.

hey Josh maybe you got chastisement by other hams because using a
Palomar on ham bands is not a good idea, they are cheaply made cb amps
meaning they have poor or no harmonic filtering so you will splatter out
of band etc. also if you are the same joshua I think you depend on frank
for help too much I see he helped you fix your swan once.

Thanks for the reply..tryed that..smoked a 10k resistor following the
diagram..whatever he did, it's throughly messed up. Nothing is where
it's
supposed to be. Some funky mods in the audio section. He even rewired
the
Jones plug to the power supply for some reason. Got that working but no
go
with the rig. I don't know what he was trying to do but it will have to
have
a Swan tech to do it (if you can find one..) Cost more to fix in money
and
heartburn than it's worth. Want to mess up a perfectly fine radio, let a
ham
do some mods to it..Torks me..Landfill time...tired of messing with
it..Thanks for the response..

I have no problem with helping anyone fix any ham equipment I am familiar with,

equipment repair. There are other newsgroups for that. So why are -you- here?

It's none of your business what I do with my time. Gee, that sounds familiar...

Nope, not a ham. I just fix their equipment from time to time, usually when they
can't find the problem themselves.

I have even participated in a few discussions on the topic myself. What's your
point?
Does that mean he -will- go elsewhere? Are you suggesting that I have some kind
of power over him to prevent him from posting here?
>Can you spell hypocrite!
Yep. Can you spell 'crybaby'?
Hi Jos,
You have been introduced to one of our resident
rec.radio.cb trolls.
"Trolls may participate in the ensuing argument, or they may simply write "Drive-by Postings".
That is to say, they will ignite the flame war and then sit back and watch the show.
Cagey net users quickly recognize trolls for what they are and warn their fellow posters that
"You are being trolled" (or words to that effect). However, since there is a constant influx of
new users on the net, trolls are going to be able to entertain themselves for a long time to
come.
Trolls crave attention, and they care not whether it is positive or negative. They see the
Internet as a mirror into which they can gaze in narcissistic rapture.
An Internet "troll" is a person who delights in sowing discord on the Internet. He (and it is
usually he) tries to start arguments and upset people. Trolls see Internet communications
services as convenient venues for their bizarre game. For some reason, they don't "get" that
they are hurting real people. To them, other Internet users are not quite human but are a kind
of digital abstraction. As a result, they feel no sorrow whatsoever for the pain they inflict.
Indeed, the greater the suffering they cause, the greater their 'achievement' (as they see it).
Trolls are utterly impervious to criticism (constructive or otherwise). You cannot negotiate
with them; you cannot cause them to feel shame or compassion; you cannot reason with them. They
cannot be made to feel remorse. For some reason, trolls do not feel they are bound by the rules
of courtesy or social responsibility.
Perhaps this sounds inconceivable. You may think, "Surely there is something I can write that
will change them." But a true troll can not be changed by mere words.
If you want a deeper analysis than that, perhaps a psychologist can shed some additional light
on the matter.
Remember-"You can't have a picnic without ants"
DO NOT FEED THE TROLLS!"

Whether you like it or not comments about amps being illegal on cb are

I dont see how Frank was attempting to muzzle them. If you mean he was
posting that amps are illegal, then that is just telling the truth, not
muzzling. You guys just dont want to hear the truth. You want to have
amp discussions without any one bringing up the legality of using them
on CB, and that isnt gonna happen here.

So, seems you don't know exactly what you talk about, either. And the 300A

It's a TV sweep tube amp, designed and built for people that couldn't afford an

Now if you can just keep to your words " Pointing out TECHNICAL facts"
If you could just keep to this then we'd all be better off.
I have nothing to do with that group. Their group is private and they

Bringing up legalities is one matter. Telling him to go elsewhere is
another.
Oh God, Chuck's out on leave
from the funny farm.
Here Chuck, maybe this will
help you see things different:
DO NOT FEED THE TROLL!
What is a troll?
The term "troll" can mean a number of different things, but in essence, a troll is a person who
aims to have 'pleasure' at your expense. There are two main types of trolls:
1.. people who are psychologically disturbed, and seek to feel good by making other list
members feel bad. This is a sort of "psycho troll", whose deception involves deceiving
themselves as well as others. In this respect, they are no different to the sorts of people we
meet in everyday life who are disturbed - some of them are easy to spot, and others aren't.
Such people may even use their real names on the internet, and they may not even realize that
they are "trolling" because it is all subconscious.
2.. people who pretend to be someone that they are not - they create personae that you think
are real, but they know is fictitious.
Trolling can be played at various levels...."

frank you have been on here for what is it now? three freekin years

Nah Frank they are not trolls they are allowed to do that they are
keyclowns they follow no rulez!
First off, get a pin out of the 6LF6 tube and the 300a amplifier. A google
search should find the tube data sheet and www.cbtricks.com will get you a
diagram for the amplifier.
Unplug the amplifier... allow it to rest for 20 min to drain the power
supply caps down.
Using an ohm meter, measure the resistance from the tube cathodes to
ground. Both stages should have less than 100 ohms resistance to ground.
check that first...

"no harmonic filtering"..? I guess that pi output circuit means nothing
to you. You might as well go say the same thing to the other amp mfgrs...
Splatter from a Palomar 300a most often means the amplifier is over
driven. Otherwise they are pretty clean for the most part.

wire though. Convert it to a Pi-L output and it would without doubt.
: It was, and still is, a good amateur amplifier that takes either 25 watts,
: or 100+ watts of drive.
No way Jose... in high power mode... about 4 watts am carrier is max
drive. In low power mode, drive it with about 40 watts max... that's it,
period. Operation in low power mode might require you set up and use a
modern solid state radio's antenna tuner. If you have a tube final radio
driving the amp in low power mode, chances are the tube radio has a tuned
circuit (might be a pi circuit) which will properly match the Palomar.
The 300a in low power mode has no tuned input stage. Tuned input is a big
deal. Tube radios have tuned output which works ok for the most part.
Solid state radios might require a tuner circuit to provide the proper
flywheel effect (tuned input circuit), much less distortion.
: So, seems you don't know exactly what you talk about, either. And the 300A

True... I spoke with one of the people behind the original palomar
amplifier lineup... they chose the sweep tube layout for the lower plate
voltage... thinking fewer people would kill themselves with the covers
off.

: No it won't. Not unless it's heavily modified and used with a big
: filter. You need to update yourself on the current specifications.
No it probably wont meet current FCC regs as a commercial or amateur
amplifier FOR SALE AS A NEW/CURRENT MODEL.
Properly operated, it's probably fine for current amateur bands. Same as
the Dentron, Amp Supply, Galaxy and other vintage sweep tube
amateur amplifiers.
What's a "big filter"..? Like most current tube amplifiers, the more
practical output section would be a Pi-L layout. A Pi-L output doesn't
have to be really big.
:>It was, and still is, a good amateur amplifier that takes either 25 watts,

: It's a TV sweep tube amp, designed and built for people that couldn't

How do you claim to know the owner couldn't afford a different amp..? Many
owners prefered the smaller desktop footprint and the practical power
gain. Best of all, you could run it using a common 15 amp 117vac house
electrical outlet. Larger power amplifiers often require upgraded AC
service into the shack. Made a lot of condo owners choose the smaller
desktop Sweep tube Amplifiers made by various mfgrs... including
the Palomar brand.
How about a cost effective mid size amplifier. Palomar even used that darn
8950 tube. It along with the common (and current) EL-509/519 and
Maco 2057 tubes are considered Sweep type tubes by convention, but never
saw a service in TV set. Yet they were/are designed for service in RF
power circuits. Funny how that all works out...
: Toll, do you want to go there again?
Been there, done that, coffee mug and tee shirt.
:>So, seems you don't know exactly what you talk about, either. And the 300A
:>is far from a basic, generic CB type amp... They where also not cheap in
:>their days.
: Cheaper (in both price and quality) than any legitimate amps.
What makes an amplifier Legitimate...? The 300a was sold as a legal
legitimate mid size amplifier. After the FCC "CB amplifier ban", reworked
similar type amplifiers appeared on the market under brand names such as
Dentron & Amp Supply. Similar type of circuits in a different color
cabinet...

Why was this "amateur" amplifier designed for 4 watts of drive?
Jos are you a ham?
Jos are you a ham?
Cool, remember... 4 watts max drive on high power. No more than 40 watts
drive on low power, you should have a loud, clean and clear signal.
: I have another one working on...think the 2n2905a transistors are
: history. Won't switch the transmitt relay..think it's not sensing the RF

OK, good amp... actually pretty reliable for something made in the 70's

Hey, you surprise me with your comprehension! That's precisely what

None of you have ever answered a serious question. I have, but I'm not

I don't have to "chase you around"; you are more than willing to stick

have less credibility than the non-existent Aanal Aaron and you have
only yourself to blame for that fact.
But as usual, you avoid and ignore the salient points: Don't you have
