In a recent posting I was wondering about the current whereabouts of some of the big personalities at WRKO in their heyday as a
Drake consulted station (owned by RKO General).

I mentioned Bobby Mitchell, Johnny Williams, Dale Dorman, Shadow Stevens, Jerry Butler, Joel Cash...

then I got an e-mail from JJ Wright asking why I forgot him?

Good question. JJ has of course been on Kiss 108 for many many years now.

He mentioned a few other names from the big 68:

Tony Mann
Charlie Fox
Gary Martin
Chip Hobart
Harry Nelson
Mike Adams
Tom Kennedy

Other follow-up postings indicate that Joel Cash died of cancer....but then someone else recently heard him in Florida ???

I know I heard Gary Martin not too long ago in Southern New Hampshire on a (presumably) low-moderate power fm.

Other info indicates BIG voiced newsman John Masters retired from WRKO the talk station a few years ago. Masters was also the
shop union steward and a hell of a nice guy.

There was another big voiced newsman at WRKO for quite a while. Robert Stevens. Anyone know where he went?

John G. (sorry JJ about the oversight)

Remember the two that were credited for taking down RKO...Tim Kelly and
Ron O'Brien?

Friends of mine in Boston tell me Dale Dorman is still doing
well as morning man for a hot AC FM station in Boston (which
one escapes me at the moment). A friend told me that even
though he's been on the air forever (and I'm sure I remember
hearing him while visiting Boston in the late 60s) Dorman's barely
50 years of age now...
We all know where Shadoe Stevens is now...at least those
of us who watch CBS on Monday Nights and catch him as
Harry Anderson's boss/second banana on the sitcom "Dave's
World."

This amazes me to no end. I remember Dale Dorman from KFRC in SF in the
1960s, which means he was only in his 20s at the time. It's so weird
turning on the TV once in awhile and seeing the DJs doing begathons for a
local PBS station here. They look not at all the way I imagined -- most
of them just look too old for their voices. Of course, I've shocked
people who think I'm a lot younger than my own voice. But Dorman and
Casey Kasem and some others probably had these great voices when they
were in high school!

Bob,

Your friends in Boston are mistaken. Dale Dorman is doing afternoon drive
at KISS 108, and has been for 15 years. I should know, he follows me
everyday. His numbers are great. "Barely 50 year old" that's funny!

Peace
