Hi ----

Thought we might be able to get some discussion going about talk radio
in New York City (since many of these programs are on clear-channel AMs,
and some might be syndicated elsewhere, the subject may have appeal out-
side of the NYC area). I'll start off with a couple of 'whatever happened
to':

Bill Bresnan -- Used to have the financial/money/real estate
call-in show on WABC. Did he leave in some kind of
disgrace ?

Dave Dawson -- Had the morning show on WABC from mid 1988 until
sometime during 1989 or 1990. For a while after he was
replaced by Steve Kane (sp?) -see below- he was on the
"graveyard shift" (as though he was filling out his con-
tract duration). Believe he was from & has returned to
Midwest (St. Louis??)

Steve Kane -- Replaced Dave Dawson on WABC mornings...didn't last
long. Came from Florida (Miami - WIOD??). Controversial
kind of guy...into baseball card collecting and other eso-
terica. Disappeared from air in NYC rather abruptly.

Jay Diamond -- Bob Grant's protege'. Another short-lived WABC
morning host...did great imitations of Mario Cuomo, though

Barry Farber -- believe he is syndicated now. For a short time
he was on WABC in the afternoon, after leaving WMCA (?)
For an even shorter time (2 or 3 days I think) he was co-
hosting the show with Lynn Samuels till they had a big
argument or something.

The more I recollect on this stuff, the more it seems like some sort of
professional wrestling with sidebands. A weird analogy but it does seem
to fit.

Well, that should get us going. Feel free to join in......

Thanks for starting this discussion, I have wanted to get such a
discussion going, but have not found the time. I listen to talk
radio a great deal, and I live in New Jersey, so I receive the NY
stations loud and clear.

As to the individuals listed below:

Jay Diamond fills in for Barry Gray on WOR whenever he takes a night off.
I do not care for his style of broadcasting. I have been a fan of Barry
Gray since I was younger and listened to him on WMCA. While I am on-line
to the net each night, Barry Gray is on in the background. The man knows
his stuff, a quality talk show host.

I recall Barry Farber from years ago when my parents had the radio on. He
was a guest/resident spokesperson on WWOR-TV's 9BP program during the Gulf
War. The man was 20 years behind the times 20 years ago, and I
could never take him for long. Whatever happened between him and
Lynn Samuels must have been a good one, because she will not even
discuss it.

As for Ms. Samuels, I can handle her and her
so-far-to-the-left-I-will-fall-over views for only a short time
before I will drop-kick the radio across the room. My mom likes
her, and makes sure I hear the start of her show each Saturday
morning just to annoy me.

Let us not forget Bob Grant. The man speaks his mind, and commands great
respect and authority. Many do not like him or his views. A very simple
solution, turn the dial.

I use this option every morning until Rush Limbaugh comes on. There is
a whole different group for Rush, so lets not start any flaming or
bitching here if you do not like him or his ideology. I find it
some of the best radio on air today.

Let the comments begin !!!
