Tony Matthews makes the jump to his fourth station in the Rochester, NY market
as a morning host as he and partner Dee Alexander move from WVOR "Variety 100.5"
to WRMM "Warm 101.3." Teamed for the last seven years, Tony and Dee announced
suddenly last week after returning from a WVOR-sponsored Caribbean cruise with
listeners that they were jumping to American Radio Systems-owned WRMM. WVOR is
owned by the Lincoln Group, Ltd., who also operate WHAM 1180 AM, WHTK 1280 AM,
and WEZO 93.3 FM in the Rochester market.
Matthews was formerly the morning man on WCMF 96.5 FM and WMJQ 92.55 FM (now
WBEE.) WVOR has begun a nation search to replace Matthews and Alexander. WRMM
was 5th in the last Arbitrons; WVOR was number 6.
WHAM APPOINTS NEW N.D.
Randy Gorbman is the new News Director at 50,000 watt WHAM 1180. The station
has begun a new promo campaign on both itself and sister station WHTK calling
itself "News Radio 1180 WHAM" while continuing to promote itself as "Rochester's
News Leader." Gorbman says in a spot introducing himself to the market that he
wants to make the news coverage "more contemporary."
WCMF-AM TO BROADCAST INTERNATIONAL LEAGUE BASEBALL
WCMF and the International League Rochester Red Wings (AAA affiliate of the
Baltimore Orioles) have announced that WCMF 990 AM will carry the team's games
with play-by-play by Josh Lewin and Glenn Geffner. For the last several
seasons, the games were carried on WPXY-AM (now WHTK). WCMF mostly simulcasts
the FM side, but also carries Pete Rose's syndicated show and Buffalo Sabres
hockey.
