I'm looking at a Kenwood TH-F6A and an Icom IC-T90A. I think the Kenwood is
a bit better but of course $50 more.

Is there a better choice I might be overlooking?

P.S. I'd really like to find an airband TX as I'm a pilot too...

John,

Can't comment on the T90, but I have the TH-F6A and
have no complaints.... dunno about the ICOM, but
Kenwood has free pc-control software for the unit.
If you plan to use a PC to program the it, you might
make up the $50 in software. Also look at the
cost of their control cables.

The T90 will Tx 118-136 if you take it out of band, and NBFM ONLY.
The OOB Tx is, for the most part, very low power {usually <1W} & will
eventually toast the {hard to replace} finals at the same time.
It has Rx intermod like most tiny HTs {lots}.
You do have to pay extra $ for the crappy programming software &
cable.
Got one..it's OK. Definately not the "end all" of radios, but I use it
primarily for Rx {it fits nicely in my large greasy ear} ;-).
Don't know beans about the Kenwood.
