and speaking of legality and FCC rules, why do local cops have the
authority to fine and arrest you and confiscate your legal radio
equipment even though you're operating completely legally under
Federal law just because you don't have any radio license to show
them?

I always thought you didn't have to show them your radio license
since the FCC doesn't require you to carrty it.

However, I have recently been informed that not only can the cop fine,
arrest you and confiscate you but that he has the DUTY to do so ansd
so NUST do so.

So if you're a ham who gets stopped in Officer Bubba's county and
Officer Bubba tears up your ham radio license because "ham radio is
illegal in this county" and then y ou get stopped later in Officer
Billy Bobn's county and don't have your lradio icense because Officer
Bubba tore it up or you're a GMRS user who can't prove to either
Officer Bubba or Officer Billy Bob that you're operating legallyu
under Feederal law because you don't have a license since it's another
member of your fimmediate family already thirty miles further down the
road who has the radio license you're covered under, you're screwed.

And filing a lawsuit just gets you another charge of interfering in
the legal duty of a police officer.

And even filing a lawsuit doesn't get you off the hook since one
county doesn't have authority over another county. And you can't
afford any appeal to the state courts or even the local court costs.

So how do GMRS users travelling in a caravan using mobile GMRS radios
so they can communicate further through repeaters or even further
simplex (external antennas allowed) than they can through cheap little
bubble pack radios (no external antenna allowed) prove to a cop
they're operating legally under federal law when the cop redused to
believe it unless you show and give him your radio license to look at
when you don't have anything to give him in the first place since
you're covered under your relative's license who has one and has just
gotten out of range of your being able to call him on the radio
because the cop stopped you?

Or else you would have still been within radio range of each other.
