The cable was there first, so perhaps "British Telecom is having
trouble with a mast erected underneath one of its cables by a Bridgend
radio ham" would be a more appropriate headline?

At one time, I believe that the GPO had automatic wayleave rights on -
and over - your property. ISTR that if they put a telegraph pole on your
land, they had to pay you a nominal 1 shilling rent per annum - although
possibly that was later superseded by a once-and-for-all single payment.

However, in this case, the main problem seems to be the neighbour, who
won't allow his phone line to be moved. Presumably BT don't have the
guts to tell him, "You have the choice of us moving it, or disconnecting
it."

Alternatively, why don't BT get into the 21st century, and run Mike
phone line underground. After all, cable companies like Virgin Media do
it 100% of the time - and I doubt if it costs anything like 900.

What's the saying .....? "Can we do it? No we can't!"

PS: Where's "Brig End"?

We know. They all moved to Scotland, and some of them can still be
seen posting to uk.r.a on a daily basis.
