I am hoping someone can help me with this problem. I am trying to program
the alphanumeric memory names into this radio. I have followed the manuals
instructions exactly and the radio will not do what it is supposed to. This
is the way I have been doing it, as the manual says:

1. Put radio in memory recall mode
2. Select desired channel
3. Switch OFF power
4. Hold MN button and Power button simultaneously to turn back ON

At this point the radio is supposed to display a blinking digit in the first
numeric position, and there are instructions to program this position and
advance to the next one, but instead, the radio powers up to regular memory
mode and displays only the frequency and channel # as it did before turning
power off. I have a valid frequency programmed here, so that is not the
problem. It's just that MN+Power On does not give me the blank display for
alphanumeric programming - just shows me the frequency just as if I had
Powered on without pressing the MN button. I have tried this many times - I
know I'm pressing the correct buttons in the correct sequence.

Do I have a faulty MN button, or has it been somehow deactivated? I cannot
figure out what is the problem here. I'm in Memory recall mode with a
frequency programmed into that position. What am I doing wrong?

I would be much appreciative of any help.

Now press the [REV] button and the first digit should be blinking.
