Eve (Easy VX5 Editor) works particularly well with the VX5R and does
lots of neat things! I've been using it for a month or two now and
think it's great!

Ham Radio Outlet has the complete package for about forty dollars. BUT
RT Systems can upgrade you for a lot less:

Their website has to be one of the most useless I've seen. It's
terribly out of date (they only list ADMS-1D - no mention of ADMS-1E or
the VX-5), and there is no description of what the various pieces of
software actually *do*. Nor any pricing info I could find (the "online
catalog" link gets an "under construction" message). And no email
address to send queries to.
If I had to guess how good their software was by looking at their web
site, I'd never buy anything from them.
However, I actually do have ADMS-1C, and know it is very useful. What
I'd like to know is whether upgrading to -1E would let me read radio
data from a text file rather than typing it in by hand - and, if so,
how much the upgrade would cost. No info about either of these is
on the web site so far as I could find.

There is also Freeware Software for the VX1R, VX5R, FT50,...
for dos, linux and windows, some Sources are also available.
The links you can find on my page.
A circuit diagram from a 2$ interface you can find at

also on this web site is free software that programs most yaesu radios-
including vx-5 it works great - even better than the yaesu crap software
full of bugs - and it is free -
http://www.icongrp.com/~sllewd/download.htm
I just got a VX-5 and I am waiting for my plugs in the mail- then i can pc
program the radio - instead of waiting for yaesu to get off thier duff-I
also ordered a few extra 4 cond plugs for wiring to external speakers -
etc.
