Hi guys,

I've obtained an old 27Mhz CB which I'm going to convert to 10M FM.
I'll have to get it working first! The final transistor, a 2SC2078, is
dead. I can't find this listed in my catalogue. Does anybody know the
direct equivalent to this? Possibly and MRF or 2N number?

Any help appreciated.

I have an old RF Parts catalog which lists a 2SC2078 for $1.20 (min order
$20). Don't know if they got a web page since then, but the phone number
for orders is 800-737-2787 or for info 619-744-0700. List is from '93 so
you may wish to check some of the info before ordering.

Well... I have a cross-ref for the 2sc2078 to ECG (ECG235) if that
helps.

It is listed as: NPN, Si, RF Pwr Final, 5 wts out, 50 Mhz. ...Another
device, the ECG236 is listed as 13 wts out, 50Mhz, SSB. Both are same
package TO-220.

Hi guys,

Thanks for all the info on the 2SC2078. It looks like a ECG235 or
SK3197 should be a direct replacement.

Carl WB6YFZ also mentioned RF Parts stock the 2SC2078. That's
interesting as I was just about to place an order with them for a pair
of 4CX800 tubes, so I'll just add the transistor to the order.

Again, thanks.

Grandata have the 2SC2078 listed in their current price list: Price 95p.
They also list the 2SC1969, 2SC1306, 2SC2312, 2SC1945, and
lot's of other Japanese RF power transistors.

You can E-Mail them at: GRANDA...@BTINTERNET.COM
Or see "ELEKTOR" mag. for details.

The NTE/ECG235 is the generic replacement.

The MRF476 is the Motorola replacement although it seems
pretty light especially for FM service. The same goes
for the NTE/ECG235. The MRF475 or the NTE/ECG236 would
be my choice. The downside to either of those is that the
output will be lower unless you're willing to re-resonate
the output circuit.
