I have a friend who is an amateur who lives close to me and he uses a
Kenwood TS570D hf tranciever.
When he switches the DSP function on there is an increase in
noise, similar to a RX which is suffering from crossmod.ie a type of
hetrodyning, whistling sound.
So he has asked to to post this on the news group to see if anyone else
is suffering from the same problem.
He bought the rig second hand so he thinks there may be a fault.

I also use a TS-570D, and perhaps can shed some light on this.
Or perhaps not.

That will commonly happen when you tune around SWB stations in CW
(which is irritating) and SSB (which is extremely irritating). The
howling sound is normally right at the front and back end of the 5khz
range the broadcaster is present on. Annoying, but it happens to me as
well. The best answer I have found is to use the Beat Cancel function.
It doesn't eliminate the shrill whistling, but it makes it bearable to
tune over.

Yes, indeed. And I wonder if your friend is having that problem
mostly on 40 meters? That's where I get killed, at night, when Euruope,
Asia and the Caribbean crush the band with SWB.
