This is the correct mod for the older FT-530. I've seen most of the
newer ones have a single green wire which you will see after you
remove the battery slide plate. Each end of this wire is connected to
the solder pads referenced above. With the radio on its back and the
keypad up, the wire should be visible as a sort of loop looking into
the radio where the battery plate used to be. A pair of tweezers will
probably be required to grab it and then it should be cut. Reset the
radio as above and you should be ready to go. CAUTION! You may wish
to verify the wire indeed goes the the solder pads!
I put a message out on packet a year and a half or so ago regarding
this, but I guess it never made it into any of the mods databases..:(
If you want a copy, let me know and I'll try to dig it up and post it.

BE CAREFUL with mods for the FT-530!
According to mod info I got from Yaesu last year, there are THREE DIFFERENT
mods for the 530. Each is applicable to a different group of serial
numbers.
Mod 1 is for S/N's xx14xxxx thru xx23xxxx
Expanded RX -- 110 - 180, 300 - 500
Expanded TX -- 130 - 180, 400 - 471
Consists of removing the solder from pad 13
Mod 2 is for S/N's xx24xxxx thru xx30xxxx
Expanded RX -- same as Mod 1
Expanded TX -- same as Mod 1
Consists of cutting the green wire which jumpers pad 13
Mod 3 is for S/N's xx33xxxx thru xx43xxxx
Expanded RX -- 110 - 177, 300 - 510
Expanded TX -- 130 - 177, 400 - 470
Consists of:
Removing solder from pads 1 & 3
Cutting green wire which jumpers pad 13
Jumper (add solder) to pads 4 & 5
(jumpers 4, 5, 6, 8, 11, & 15 are
now installed)
All three mods require you to press and hold both arrow keys while turning
on the radio.
These were taken from "The Yaesu Book", Number 4, (a booklet containing
nothing but mods for Yaesu radios) dated May, 1996, which I obtained from
Yaesu at a major hamfest in mid-1996.
Although these mods may also allow you to tune the 800 MHz range, later
versions of the 530 did not have the RF components necessary to receive 800
installed in them. Even though 800 might show up on your dial, these later
radios cannot actually receive up there. And besides, you're not supposed
to do that anyway.
Have fun.
