A few months ago, I posted a request for help regarding a fault on my Yaesu FT102
transceiver. The problem was that the RX was going "deaf" occasionally. By pressing the ptt
a couple of times, the receiver would come back up and all would be well for a while and then the same
problem would occur.

After reading through all the very helpful replies I received I replaced the 5 miniture relays on the RF board. This
so I am told is usually enough to repair the fault.

However the problem still exists on the 102. Does anyone have any ideas or possible solutions for my problems ?
(other than building or buying a new rig !)

It would seem to point to a mechanical, ie relay problem but I'm not sure.

Is there a FAQ available on the FT102 ?

Many thanks in advance for any help

I had a 102 and the relay causing the most problems was the ant relay.
It is in with the final tubes. Try cleaning this one. I cleaned and
cleaned all the others before I found this one.

Ben,

This sounds interesting. I have noticed my FT101EE lately exhibiting a
similar problem. After a transmission of more than a few seconds, the
rx will go deaf, then a static noise will build for a few seconds, a
small pop, then the rx is back fine. Think I will check that relay
tonight.

Thanks,
Phil

Sorry about your FT-102. The relays in the FT-102 have always been the main
point of consternation with the '102. Yes, replacing the relays on the
RF Unit usually fixes the problem. Make sure the relay under the bandswitch
is replaced also. That one is a toughy to replace.
The Antenna relay can be a problem, but not as much as the other relays on
the RF Unit.

Sorry about your FT101EE. Check/clean/replace two relays, the antenna relay
and the relay that is dead center in the top side of the radio.
Both will cause intermittents like that.

I had a similar problem with my FT102 years ago. It would intermittently lose
more than 20 dB of receiver sensitivity. In my case it was caused by oxidized
contacts on the Norm/Separate Antenna slide switch on the back of the radio. I
cleaned this switch with contact cleaner and the problem disappeared.
