My Yaesu VX-1 shuts itself off if you look at it crosseyed. If you pick it
up, put it on your belt, or set it on its bottom, it clicks and shuts off.
I think I've got this narrowed down to the trapdoor arrangement of the
battery compartment. THere's a little door that unlatches and swings down
so you can stick the battery pack in it. I use the AA battery adapter that
is the same size as the Li battery that comes with the unit.
It looks like there's some kind of an electrical contact on the hinge side
of this trapdoor that has an intermittent connection. When that connection
breaks, the radio is instantly off.
Anyone else have this problem -- and how did you fix it?
Thanks and 73
Jim
It seemed as if the intermittent connection was at the hinge end of the
trapdoor arrangement, so I looked there, and found a little spoon-like
extension of what would be the baseplate of the battery compartment. I took
a little screwdriver and bent this structure up just a little, teeny bit,
and that seems to have done the trick.
