"The FirmWare" is not a node software, but a simple TNC-firmware (note
that T in TNC comes from "Terminal" :-) ) containing a WA8DED like
Hostmode.
You may want to use "The Net", the NET/ROM - ... lets say "Clone".
Maybe http://www.nordlink.org will help u.

TheNet will not work with a PK88, so the manual says. As far as NET/ROM, I
can't find it anywhere, must be commercial.(?) I thought "The Firmware" had a
built-in node, not necessarily node software but I think you could connect to
it and use it as a node, maybe not. Like the KPC-3 and probably earlier kpc's
have a built-in node. AEA's PK88 firmware doesn't have a built-in node.
Thanks..

Oh, yes, thats right. I did not notice, that the pk88 was mentioned,
sri.

Yes, several years ago from W-country

No, no build in node, only the usal AX.25-digipeating.
I was under the assumption the PK88 was a TAPR TNC2 clone and and as
such would be able to make use of networking firmware. I'm unfamiliar
with the AEA products and can't say for sure. I assume those of you are
using the the firmware you're speacking of the program burned into the
EPROM,the spelling FirmWare with caps is what's confusing me.
Kantronic units have had their own networking system, KAnode as a
standard feature for quite some time. While kanode perorm node to node
error corection it wasn't compatable with any of the other networking
software. Now Kantronics offers a replacement eprom that includes Knet
wich will fit unto and work with a network using the X1J. The verion of
Knet I have doesn't support all the features of X1J, stuff like the IP
router,devmeter and, chat mode...
