One of my friends owns an old "Atlas 210x". Now he wants to use it as his
"digital modes Transceiver" because the receivers spectrum is very linear.
But it has a terrible frequency drift problem.
Now he remembered that there is a connector for an external VFO at his
radio's rear. His idea is that there must be a way to stabilize the radio on
the frequency - for example 14.070 for PSK31. May be with a little circuit
using crystals, etc...
Do you have any ideas about how to do this? Schematics? Or something that
may help him...
Thank you very much!

We just found http://www.hamanuals.com/MMans/ATLS10XB.pdf where you can see
the original schematics of the external crystal oscilator. Do you think it's
possible to replace this circuit with a PLL?
Any Ideas about that?

This will stabilize the VFO if it drifts less than about 5 KHz and provide a
freq readout.

I have a 210X and found the manual and schematics at the following site.
Also the Atlas 210X-215X news group at Yahoo.com has the same info.
Hope this is of help
