Anyone know power plug wiring for SBE-33?

I acquired a really nice Sideband Engineers SBE-33 transceiver and
would like to get it working. I already have several SBE-34's and
really enjoy these rigs. The problem is that I have been unable to
locate any documentation on the '33. Does anyone know if the power
plug wiring on the SBE-33 and '34 are the same? I know that with the
model 34 there are several jumpers and different wiring configruations
that must be made to accommodate 12 volt or 120 volt operation. Does
anyone know whether the two models are the same in terms of plug
wiring? Any help would be greatly appreciated.

I sold my 33 about 3 years ago. If I recall it needs either 120 vac or an
external *inverter supply* to supply the fils and High voltage from the
external inverter.

In the 120 vac mode it has a 120 volt cord & plug and an extra wire coming
out (of I believe an octal)
with an alligator clip. You ground the clip and plug it in the way which
has the neon bulb on the rear NOT GLOWING. I believe it must have had a
voltage doubler right off the AC line for the HV, but don't remember the
filament transformer. It would seem you could easily trace it out. I had
the service sheet. I'll try to figure out who I sold it to and get back to
you. It was a Prof @ the U of Chicago.

When I was young and crazy and using AC/DC home radios for audio amps, I would
rig them with a neon bulb to the chassis, then reverse the AC plug in the
socket if the bulb glowed when I touched the free end. I had only one
"explosion", on a radio that I hadn't install such a neon tester.

Voltage doublers are tricky -- one common circuit ends up with the common
"ground" B- output at a potential different from either side of the incoming
power line. If you build a "hot chassis" radio with it, neither position of
the AC plug is safe.

There is a voltage doubler circuit (2 diodes, 2 caps just like hte other one)
that does indeed preserve the common neutral/ground lead striaght thru, but
ISTR it gives a half-wave rather than full-wave output, so needs more
filtering.

I suspect after 11 years he either found the information or is no longer
interested.

I do wish I still had my SBE-34, though. It was my first SSB rig, and I
enjoyed it immensely.

I don't know about Dave, but there is a full service manual for the SBE-34
on BAMA and it should have the pinout.
