Hi,
I recently bought an s-40b, got it working, and it has 3 knobs missing.
I need a band spread, sensitivity, and pitch knob.

If you have some you can part with, (no pun indented) that would be great.

I presently have an SX-100 and HT 37 in the shack, repaired, and well maintained.

Thanks.

Tim

Hi Tim,

Let me poke around the shack here. I think I have a bandspread knob and
maybe a couple of others around here somewhere

I saw some vendor at a hamfest a few years ago selling reproduction knobs
so somebody out there at least has molds for the things. tubesandmore.com
doesn't have them, though.

As long as we're talking about restoring old radios....

I could use a few knobs for a Knight Kit Star Roamer. Bet they're even
rarer than Hallicrafter knobs.

But, the rarest part I seem to always be searching for are
multi-section electrolytics. Where do people here usual
look for these? I have 5 or 6 antique radios on the bench
right now all in need of replacements.

One of them, a Zenith from my childhood days of listening to
things like The Shadow :-) is in need of them and has special
meaning to me. Not only did I grow up with this radio but it
was the first repair job I did when I was about 14. And,
believe it or not, it was the multi-section electrolytic that
needed replacement (obvious short across the 5U4 with red
glowing plates and amazing generated heat!) Here we are 60
years later having to do it again. Back in those days I merely
rode my bike into the city and bought replacement parts at
Shelblourne Electronics. Places like that no longer exist.

These are pretty cheaply-made knobs, and I think most of the Knight kits
used the same knobs, so there are probably a lot of them out there.

Basically, you buy new ones from CE Manufacturing (through tubesandmore.com)
which owns the old Mallory plant, or you scoop the insides out of the old
ones and solder modern radial caps in... or else you just hide modern radial
caps under the chassis.

If NOS ones aren't bad, they are likely to be on the way.
