I wish to challenge in the spirit of constructive competition, K1KW and K3BU in
the upcoming 10M Contest in December.

The category will be low power, phone only.

Use whatever antennas you want. I will use the 10M Fractal Quad Yagi seen on
the ham page of:

http://www.fractenna.com

This antenna provides a unique combination of ease of construction, optimum
performance, and dinky form factor. It is NOT MATCHED in performance,
simplicty, and reliability by any other such small antenna in that form factor.
None.

My objective is to show that the unmitigated bluster from these two individuals
is not only silly, but not in the true ham spirit.

SO let's battle it out on the air and may the best operator/antenna combination
win!

I've already ordered a voice keyer, and will use my binaural enhancement
technology to make up for my declining hearing. Otherwise my operating skills,
I betcha, are superior to both K1KW and K3BU, while their vast but wasted
antenna farms will not prove useful in helping'em win~! Also, as fewer hams go
in the direction of aluminum tubing beanstocks, someone needs to show that
SMALL WORKS, FRACTALS WORK, and that the future is now.

What say, Chuck and Yuri?

More crap and lies from Freak. Where is the proof fo your "superior" skill?
Name one record in the contest Troller?

Yuri outgrew QRP, low power, handicapped categories. Unless paralyzed by
equipment or customs problems, he always goes with big boys, after world or
other records. He will not lower himself to Freak's level of "competition".
Yuri is in pursuit of pushing the limits on the antenna, equipment and
operating front and in setting the records to be the best of the best.
You want to compete on my level? You are welcome! Wanna make a bet you chicken?
You would be stomped with your Fractal N. Crap!

Go away!

So what you are saying is that you feel that you are so superior that you feel
threatened by this 'nobody' with a fractal antenna??

That, is, someone who you are convinced cannot beat you in a contest (because
he can't operate?) and with an antenna that can't posibly work? Seems to me you
are a WEE BIT unrealistic..not to mention insulting to thousands of other hams.

Or is it just that you can't condescend to compete with someone who represents
a more realistic cross section of HF operators?

Explain that (this should be juicy news going through the grapevine!)!

We really want to know:-)

Would you expect Michael Johnson go and play seriously against school kids?
Hmmmm? It would be below his dignity.

You want to play with big boys? Switch your SB220 to 110V, spread about 500
fractals around and see how far back you will end up.

This thread is considered useless troll and is closed.

If Yuri's station and operating skills are so superior, I fail to see why he
can't just beat me and win the class as well.

Then you will have no problem taking on a different challenge, where someone

Notes From An Inexperienced Chili ConTaster Named CHIRP (famous East Coast
contester, DXer and best antenna designer ever lived), who was visiting Texas
from the East Coast:

"Recently I was honored to be selected as an outstanding Famous Fractal
celebrity in Texas, to be a judge at a chili cook-off, because no one else
wanted to do it. Also the original person called in sick at the last moment,
and I happened to be standing there at the judge's table asking directions to
the beer wagon when the call came. I was assured by the other two judges
(Native Texans) that the chili wouldn't be all that spicy, and besides they
told me I could have free beer during the tasting, so I accepted."

Here are the scorecards from the event:

Chili # 1: Mike's Maniac Mobster Monster Chili

JUDGE ONE: A little too heavy on tomato. Amusing kick.
JUDGE TWO: Nice, smooth tomato flavor. Very mild.
CHIRP: Holy shit, what the hell is this stuff? You could remove dried paint
from your driveway with it. Took me two beers to put the flames out. Hope
that's the worst one. These Texans are crazy.

Chili # 2: Arthur's Afterburner Chili

JUDGE ONE: Smoky, with a hint of pork. Slight Jalapeno tang.
JUDGE TWO: Exciting BBQ flavor, needs more peppers to be taken seriously.
CHIRP: Keep this out of reach of children! I'm not sure what I am supposed to
taste besides pain. I had to wave off two people who wanted to give me the
Heimlich maneuver. They had to walkie-talkie in 3 xtra beers when they saw the
look on my face.

Chili # 3: Fred's Famous Burn Down the Barn Chili

JUDGE ONE: Excellent firehouse chili! Great kick. Needs more beans.
JUDGE TWO: A beanless chili, a bit salty, good use of red peppers.
CHIRP: Call the EPA, FCC, I've located a RF or uranium spill. My nose feels
like I have been snorting Drano. Everyone knows the routine by now. Barmaid
pounded me on the back; now my backbone is in the front part of my chest. I'm
getting shit-faced.

Chili # 4: Bubba's Black Magic

JUDGE ONE: Black bean chili with almost no spice. Disappointing.
JUDGE TWO: Hint of lime in the black beans. Good side dish for fish or other
mild foods, not much of a chili.
CHIRP: I felt something scraping across my tongue, but was unable to taste it.
Sally, the bar maid, was standing behind me with fresh refills; that 300lb.
bitch is starting to look HOT, just like this RF nuclear-waste I'm eating.

Chili # 5: Linda's Legal Lip Remover

JUDGE ONE: Meaty, strong chili. Cayenne peppers freshly ground, adding
considerable kick. Very impressive.
JUDGE TWO: Chili using shredded beef; could use more tomato. Must admit the
cayenne peppers make a strong statement.
CHIRP: My ears are ringing, and I can no longer focus my eyes. I farted and
four people behind me needed paramedics. The contestant seemed offended when I
told her that her chili had given me brain damage. Sally saved my tongue from
bleeding by pouring beer directly on it from a pitcher. It really pisses me off
that the other judges asked me to stop screaming.

Chili # 6: Vera's Very Vegetarian Variety

JUDGE ONE: Thin yet bold vegetarian variety chili. Good balance of spice and
peppers.
JUDGE TWO: The best yet. Aggressive use of peppers, onions, and garlic.
Superb.
CHIRP: My intestines are now a straight pipe filled with gaseous, sulfuric
flames. No one seems inclined to stand behind me except that slut Sally. I need
to wipe my ass with a snow cone!

Chili # 7: Susan's Screaming Sensation Chili

JUDGE ONE: A mediocre chili with too much reliance on canned peppers.
JUDGE TWO: Ho Hum, tastes as if the chef literally threw in a can of chili
peppers at the last moment. I should note that I am worried about Judge Number
3. He appears to be in a bit of distress as he is cursing uncontrollably.
CHIRP: You could put a grenade in my mouth, pull the pin, and I wouldn't feel
a damn thing. I've lost the sight in one eye, and the world sounds like it is
made of rushing water. My shirt is covered with chili hich slid unnoticed out
of my mouth. My pants are full of lava-like shit to match my damn shirt. At
least during the autopsy they'll know what killed me. I've decided to stop
breathing, it's too painful. I'm not getting any oxygen anyway. If I need air,
I'll just suck it in through the 4-inch hole in my stomach.

Chili # 8: Helen's Mount Saint Chili

JUDGE ONE: A perfect ending, this is a nice blend chili, safe for all, not too
bold but spicy enough to declare its existence.
JUDGE TWO: This final entry is a good, balanced chili, neither mild nor hot.
Sorry to see that most of it was lost when Judge Number 3 passed out, fell and
pulled the chili pot on top of himself. Not sure if he's going to make. Poor
Yank.
CHIRP: --------------(editor's note: Judge #3 was unable to report)"

And he has the guts to challenge people to contests?
I hope this helps to put CHIRP in proper light.
(With apology to original writer.)

>Would you expect Michael Johnson go and play seriously against school kids?
>Hmmmm? It would be below his dignity.

Michael Jordan has skill and he proves it every time he plays.

What you do is press a voice keyer, look at CT, press a function on your
keyboard, turn a knob, and occasionally blurb something into a microphone. Some
skill!

IF you run like MOST so-called 'contest stations', you are using power
exceeding legal limits for your respective country; splitting the feed with
multiple amplifiers to point at more than one direction at once (also illegal
)with multiple antennae; and jumping on top of others at any cost to get
multipliers. That's for starters.

I do none of these things--although this year I WILL use my first voice keyer
and computer log.

I will beat you hands down in the LP phone category because I know how to lust
for, and grab those contacts and how to use the best antenna for my situation.
Just ONE I might add...

Seems there's a contest just about every other weekend. I think sombody
already did think of it. You could participate in one of them, and
compare your score to the other participants scores. How about that for

Hi Jim,

Well, 10M is the best place to put the FQY through its paces, and 10 hasn't
been open much til recently this season.. The 10M contest in December is a
wonderful chance to show its stuff! Besides, it's the weekend before finals so
I have it off!

Yuri and Chuck both op on 10M and can thus best attempt to beat me.

They won't!

Just a caution to the mighty antenna farms in this contest. Other factors
will or at least can make a difference.

While still in Lawton, Oklahoma I had the great pleasure of working with the
Lawton Fort Sill Amateur Radio Club in the area of organizing events.

One event that I particularly enjoyed was what we called the Colder the
Snott, Mount Scott Run. Held in February, the regions coldest month, the
name was a play in words against the nations largest bicycle race, "The
hotter then Hell 100" held 50 miles to the south in Wichita Falls, Texas.

To the north west of Lawton lies the Wichita Mountains Wild Life Refuge.
One of the highest points is Mount Scott, which rises some 850 feet above
the surrounding terrain - and is topped by a parking lot capable of holding
about 100 cars.

The Mount Scott run was organized as a multi-event contest. We did HF, VHF,
and UHF direction finding. We also did HF, VHF, and UHF 30 minute operating
contests. From the top of Mount Scott it is possible to work both Oklahoma
City 90 miles to the north and Dallas/Fort Worth about 150 miles to the
south. So even without sky wave - plenty of contacts were available.

By far the most popular event was the mobile 30 minute operating contest.
All kinds of antennas were used and stations were used.

I teamed with Joe King, KF5MK. Joe provided the 2 1/2 ton flat bed truck,
10kwatt generator, 35 foot vertical and antenna matching unit. This
military vertical was designed to be a military battlefield propaganda
station and saw duty during the Korean Conflict. I provided the HF rig and
SB 220 amplifier. Operating at full power we dominated the top of the hill.
Bug catchers could produce 59 reports. We produced 59 +40db reports from
the same stations.

It was great fun. We thought it was a slam dunk. Who could beat a setup
like that???

Well, the local TV weather man and Paul Wardell, N5PYD beat Joe and I. They
did it with 100 watts and a bumper mounted Hustler on 10 and 15 meters.
They were simply better operators.

So - big antenna and big stations - beware.

Yes Terry;

For example, stations LIKE to call me , not only because I have a good signal,
but because I am--with no intent of ego or boast-- a very good phone operator.

I have heard Yuri operate and there is very little true skill there. Too much
emphasis on boring voice keyers and snapping spots from packetcluster with CT
and dumping on top of other stations calling so they can work the multipler
between CQ's on the voice keyer....

I have a REAL EDGE as an operator. I have no doubt that I can beat him hands
down.

I think he is scared, myself. Thus he has to try to brag about his lofty
position in the contest world.

I don't see why, given his so-called God's gift to contesting, that K3BU can't
just decide to take the LP unassisted phone category. Isn't that just an
important a 'win' as high power assisted? IMHO it's a far more coveted win.

Let him go after that and try to beat me in the process.

Why not?

He does NOT deal with losing- He either sets the rules himself so he
cant lose, or picks a minor area where he did, indeed, do a little
better. Note he set the rules in his "challenge" to Yuri- He did not
just go head-to-head on the area Yuri is in.

Had he been honest- he would have ASKED Yuri which category- then set up
to play there, and make his announcement AFTER the contest. THe way he
has done it is just another TROLL. He seems to be getting desparate.

I hope this helps.

If he actually goes through with his legal thing with Tom, it is obvious that
he is going to loose. At that time he will have lost any "power" he might have
thought he had over the group. Any further claims at that point will be libel
against Tom who will have been found innocent in a court of law. Also any legal
claims against others will just be brushed aside (even more so than now) and he
will become the group joke (even more so than now). If Tom wants a Character
witness I will be happy to appear on his behalf. I must also add that there
indentations in my monitor where I have tried to reach through to strangle Chip

Oh heck, no lawyer in his right mind would even take such a loose goose
case. Unless maybe he was Chips brother n law or something...And even
then, he would have to admit to the futility of such a silly gesture.
Hopefully, any competant legal help he has enlisted has talked him out
of such a mistake. But then again, maybe he or she wants to drain Chip
of all his cash on useless cases. Only Chips hairdresser knows for
sure. MK

Hey Yuri,

I just finished a 270 Q/hr rate EU run on 10M:-) Used the MFJ-434.

150 watts.

Fractal Quad Yagi.

I've decided to put a voice keyer switch on the mike and a also have a foot
version. Pressing that darn button is kinda mindless!

Got my second RX set up to deactivate a second antenna when I transmit, and
have a mixing board setting up a binaural sound field, so I can localize the
second RX in the headphones and STILL make Q's on the main transceiver without
wondering which RX I'm listening to. Can't do that on an MP!.

Once I give CT a shakedown I will be all set for the 10M Contest.

Are you READY to COMPETE?

Hmmm?

Well....

Thread drift alert!!!

Remember, you asked.

First, I was there from about 1975 to 1980, and I was Artillery,
first in a line unit,
then at the Field Artillery school as an instructor. Me and my
'ol buddy Harry
use to hang out in all the scuzzy bars in Lawton, and in those
days they had
quite a few. They had so many that you could tailor your viewing
of nekkid
wimmen by skin color, ethnic type, raunchiness, etc.

Not too suprised that the blue-noses have ruined a good thing.
Too bad,
but not totally unexpected, since just about every military town
has done
the same. I remember Monterey, California back in the '70's. That
was
one hell of a liberty town, and now its all chi-chi and touristy.
BAH-Humbug!

Even here, in good 'ol Washington state, we can't drink beer and
ogle wimmen
at the same time. To do that we gotta go across the border to
Oregon. Thank
God for Portland! They have a bar there, (the Acropolis) where
you can drink
micro-brews, eat a steak dinner, (for ridiculously low prices)
AND ogle nekkid
wimmen!

Oregon does at least ONE thing right.

The definition of an ethical lawyer is one who will pursue your case
with the utmost vigor to your last dollar.

Fract never has to deal with losing - he is incapable of
recognizing when he loses, by a factor of 10 log - or was
that 20 log - whatever. His mind is closed.
