Can anyone help me to figure out how to design monopole antennas for a
non-hand-held mobile devices? I've experimented fitting the device with a
normal mode helix, but it only radiates well when a long ground wire is
attached to the device. When there is no grounding wire, it can hardly
radiate anything. Is it that there MUST be a grounding (wire) for the
monopole antenna to radiate efficiently?
One of my thinking is that: instead of feeding a dipole from the center, can
I feed a monopole of the same total length at the end with a similar
performance?
Many thanks.
