Comet's website states that the uhv-4 is designed for my radio. Is
this my only choice? Is it a good choice?
Any ideas on what mount to use on a ranger extended cab pickup would
be welcome.
Thanks,

Diamond also makes an antenna "designed for the FT-8900". The model
is the HV7A. I dont' have either yet, but from reports on the ft-8900
yahoogroup, they are both great antennas. Check out the eham.net
reviews as well.
I have the FT-8900 and my plan is to get one of those two quad bands,
as well as a shorter dual band. The dual band would be the day to day
antenna, and the quad band would go up when I was on a trip. The
quadbands have a fold down feature, but I don't want to be bothered
with that everytime I'm in and out of the garage.
I can't help you with the mounting. STill trying to figure that out
on my minivan.

Thanks for the tip. Leaning towards the comet since it looks like
with additional coils, it is a uhv-6.

I'd like to mount my antenna on the roof but it won't pass the drive
in window test.
Mounting in stake pocket might be a good option for my truck. Trying
to learn if I can build one cheaper than buying.

Sidemount, lip mount seem to be choices.
