Richard OM,
Why not contact Moseley for replacement parts? Are ALL the director
parts bad? I doubt it. Retain your TA-33 three-element beam; it is an
excellent, rugged design. Mine is now 35 years old, and in perfect
shape. You can also purchase aluminum tubing of the right diameter and
wall thickness and make your own parts for the damaged director. Check
the cost to you both ways before deciding. With some effort, even the
traps can be duplicated at home if you want to; I personally will go to
extreme lengths to avoid BUYING anything ready-made, HI.

I have a TA-32jr. The boom dimension between elements is 60"
(from memory, docs are at home). I believe the rest is all the
same. Mosley will sell you parts for the traps, I have the parts
list as well.
I think the TA-32jr is a better antenna than the TA-33jr simply
because its more compact and lightweight. You might get an extra
2 db of gain from the director, and certainly more F/B, but the
TA-32jr has at least 5 db over a dipole and about 20 db F/B.
Yes, you can get slightly more gain from a two element yagi using
a director but the F/B suffers much more. I know, I built one.
Actually, my antenna is currently a TA-31jr because I took the
reflector off and I'm using just the driven element as a tri-band
dipole. Yes, the traps are lossy and that's why it will match so
broadly. But everybody's traps are lossy and my TA-32jr sure works
good! I've made direct operating comparisons with a Hygain TH-3
and the TA-32jr is less than half an 'S' unit down, which is what
is expected in ideal conditions. The TH-3 is sure a lot bigger!
While making these tests I tried using the TH-3 50 ohm 1:1 balun
on the Mosley antenna. That's right, it made no difference at
all. All the testing was done using my portable antenna trailer
with fold-over, telescoping 40' mast. Yep, I'd say, "standby
about 3 minutes, I'm going to change antennas", and that's
how long it took to crank down the mast, slide off the antenna,
slide other antenna on, screw on the coax, and back up it goes!

Jim
