On 20 meters and above, it's a so so antenna. The antennas are
rugged and can withstand banging into things, but on 40 meters
and/or 75/80 meters, the things are just plain inefficient. The
shorter stubby JR also is even less efficient than the large size
ones. However, if you rent a lot of cars, and can figure out how to
run your rig in them without permanent changes, i.e., get a 24 AH
gel cell, hook it up to the cigarette lighter outlet through a resistor
for recharging, and run your rig, a mag mount with one is a great
way to get on HF while driving. Otherwise, well. it does make a
good blunt instrument for driving off wild dogs!

Actually, one of the really good things about outbackers is that
you could actually beat on a pack of wild dogs let's say and then
hook the thing back up and expect it to work. I wouldn't make
the same statement about any other commercial HF mobile
antenna that I've ever seen. I certainly wish my screwdriver
antennas built from W6AAQ's plans in his now out of print book
were as rugged.

Yeah .. mine survived a 75 mph confrontation with an overpass. The big
mag mount it was on did not fare so well.
For my money, Hustler or Hamstick is the way to go for 20 and on up (17,
15, etc.). Outbackers do not perform as well (I've used all three) and
are costly.
Currently use a RM-15 on an MO-2 with a 40" stinger for 20 mobile: seems
to work very well.
