Hi,
I live in the Passaic county area in NJ. I have a VHF/UHF antenna on
the roof about 17 feet total off the roof (Two family). I am trying to
receive channel 48 WGTW out of Philadelphia. The twin lead wire runs to
the first floor, I am on the second floor + Attic.. I have received
permission to splice the wire and add my own. Is this a good way to add
my wire? I have lots of twin lead wire, is there a way to make my own
antenna across my attic using the wire to get UHF reception? Any help in
how to receive this station or making a antenna would be appreciated. A
link to the technical stuff regarding WGTW transmitter

Thanks, J

hi!

don't be offended, but i think you are not a RF-expert, so i have some
essential tipps for you:

- if you are more than 100 km away and the carrier frequency is much
higher than about 50 MHz, you can get a problem with the
bend of the earth, hills and mountains, ...

- the best way to add your wire, would be to use a power divider:
http://www.dxcomm.com/products/DXAntenna/SED-772.asp

- get a antenna, with the highest gain available.
check that the antenna is designed for the right frequency!
check the orientation of the antenna! high gain antennas allow
less angular spread. it's like with a telescope, a high aggrandizement
allows only low angular wpread, or you will miss the target.
if you don't have a antenna measurement equeipment, take your tv and
climb up to the antenna. oriantation is optimum, when the picture is
best, isn't it ;-)

i've it is necessary you can built a antenna yourself, i've already
done this, just with the tools you already have in your garage!
(i built it with the book rothammel, see
http://www.dj0tr.de/english/buecher.html
but there is also a lot of good english litrature available.)

- place a amplifier as near to the antenna as possible.
look for one with low noise. you can cascade them to have
more amplification, but the first one must be the one with lowest

noise numer. (but the best amplifier is a antenna!!!)

- check that your antennea cable is as short as possible.

have a good connedtion.

bye ralph!
