I just purchased and installed a GAP Eagle DX antenna with high hopes. I am
finding that it is not any better than my G5RV up about 20'.

I mounted it on a 10' mast buried 3 feet in the ground so the feedpoint is
about 16 to 17' high. I installed it about 7 feet away from a tree due to
my house having aluminum siding and me having to install the thing looking
towards a corner of the house instead of broadside. It is about 30' away
from the corner of the house.

I seem to get stateside QTH's asking for repeats. What gives? I have flat
SWR's on all bands it is designed for except 15M which is mostly resonant in
the SSB portion.

I am wondering if other hams here in the newsgroup have had similar luck. I
am wondering if I got sucked into marketing hype :-)

Thnx es 73

Jason, vertical antennas generally have a lower angle of radiation that
gives better DX performance compared to state-side. If you are interested in
better reports within 500 miles try a 1 wavelength horizontal loop up about
35 ft. The GAP's elevated feedpoint has an advantage compared to ground
mounted antennas with a few radials.
Remember all antennas compromise something. The more different antennas you
can chose from gives you an edge.
