Anybody who knows where to by a soft (foldable/bendable) discone
antenna or how to build one?

Where can I read more about them?

Try www.summitekinstruments.com. They make one. It's part of an interference
analyzer system called a Basestar. A picture of the Basestar setup is at

This picture's about 200k, so give it a little time to load.

I asked them whether they'd sell the fold-up diskcone separately, and from
their response I got the impression they haven't decided whether they want
to sell the antenna separately..

Hmmm, Betcha could replace the normal 12/14 ga wire with similar-sized piano
(or bass guitar) wire. That would be flexible and still stiff, but would not
be much good in the wind.
