I just installed a horizontal 80 meter delta loop. 270 total, 90 ft on a
side and app. 30 ft above ground. Fed with 1:1 Balun at one of the
vertex and rg-8u coax. The ant. is made with 14 guage insulated wire.

Best match on 80 meters is 2.5:1 @ 3.636 and 3:1 @ 3.536 and 3.613 only
an 82 khz window.

Question are:

1) Any ideas on what I should try to lower the match and increase the
usable window of the band?

2) How can I get better matches on 10-40 meters???

Appreciate your input.

Tnx de KF6QKA

My set up is very similar. 3 sides, 210 feet long, 30 feet high on good
side, 20 feet on other two sides.

I use 300 ohm TV line and a tuner. It work from 160 to 10.

Try feeding it with a 1/4 wave electrical length of 75 ohm coax and then any
length of 50 ohm.

Can you move the supports to change the position of the feed point?
I have the following set up which works great: One leg 123 feet, one leg
95 feet and one 42 feet long. I feed between the 42 feet and the 95 feet
legs where an obtuse angle is formed by the wire.
Results are 2.0:1 at 3.8, 1:1 AT 3.7 AND 2.2:1 3.6. I did try a 1:1 and
a 2:1 balun but eventually settled for a 20m length of 75 ohm coax
between the antennae and the 50 ohm coax to the shack. Everyone remarks
on the strength of my signal with this set up. I can never decide
whether to call it a full wave delta loop or a folded dipole!

Doubt if you will be able to do a great deal to improve matching on
these bands, but I find the inbuilt tuner will match the rig to this
antennae on all bands up to 10m.

My delta is about 120 horizontal top, split in center with 450 ladder
shorted stub about 30'. Feed in in center of bottom of the V with a
current 4:1 balun. I use 100' of low loss coax. Tunes easy
on all bands except for the edges of 160. You may want to try
a longer length of coax.

Best,
Duane

Have you tried your antenna without the balun? Supposedly one is not
needed.
