Hey folks,

Does anyone know of any MININEC, EZNEC, ELNEC, NEC-[34], or like
software that runs under Linux/X11?

Thanks,

Patrick

There are no versions of EZNEC or ELNEC which run under Linux (unless
it can emulate DOS). MININEC and NEC-2 source code are widely
available and can probably be compiled for that operating system.
(They are written in GWBASIC and FORTRAN 77 respectively.) NEC-2 has
been compiled for a number of operating systems, and might be
available for Linux. I don't know the best web site for obtaining
compiled versions of NEC-2 -- I'm sure someone else can lead you to
this. NEC-3 has never been released to the public. NEC-4 is not public
domain but can be purchased by any U.S. citizen for use in the U.S.,
and might be available in a Linux-compiled version. The price is
$850.00, with a discount available for educational institutions. For
information about NEC-4, contact Dr. Gerald Burke at Lawrence
Livermore Laboratories, bur...@llnl.gov.

Thanks, but that URL appears to have evaporated. Any other links?

It's working as of a couple of minutes ago. I've had some success compiling
and running the HP/UX NEC2 sources on both Solaris and Linux boxen, xnecview
as well, but no joy as yet with Npp (I think just a config glitch with Yorick,
which built OK, and runs its own demos, but has trouble with bits of NPP; no
time to RTFM, yet). I wonder whether there are already plotting widgets around
for GTK+? Maybe we can borrow some stuff from gnumeric...

Would recheck the URL for typos??? I have tried again and still get a
not found message.

I just now (1010 EST) pasted it into Netscape and got there OK. You can
also get much of the same software from

ftp://ftp.netcom.com/pub/ra/rander/nec
and
ftp://ftp.emclab.umr.edu/pub/aces/NEC

No Npp, though. I can send you that if you want it. If you're going to
be working with the FORTRAN sources and g77, the yaf77 package from the
metalab ftp archives is very useful, as is the online tutorial, if you
don't already know the language:

http://metalab.unc.edu/pub/Linux/devel/lang/fortran/
and
http://metalab.unc.edu/pub/languages/fortran/

Good info here, too:

http://web.utk.edu/~cebik/radio.html

I'll email a copy of the wb6tpu page from another account. If there's
something there that isn't at the other sites, I can bounce it to you.

If you just go to www.qsl.net, there is a chance that you'll get a
message about their upgrade to an ftp server; they also mention that
if you're reading that particular page, then it means that your DNS
server hasn't been updated yet.

A few days' patience ought to restore things...

20 years later, the link at http://www.qsl.net/wb6tpu/swindex.html redirects to a page at http://ww12.si-list.net/ that seems to sell antennas.
