Presumably, they're flying a light private plane, and the intended answer
is that they're unable to land without the use of their aviation
radio. However, this scenario is even less likely than the old
chestnut about the man who orders albatross, for several reasons.
In the first place, it is inconceivable that the oversight would not
be noticed until after takeoff, as it is necessary to use the radio
for takeoff. Secondly, radio failure is hardly fatal... there are
numerous procedures pilots follow in the event of radio failure
and a pilot with no radio should easily be able to land safely.
So tell me... does Boston University know that you're using their
computers for a commercial purpose?
The lack of a usable radio changes their life plans, so they
bail out over an ocean (pick one) and live the rest of their lives
under the sea, complete with friendly crustaceans.
Really, this is what the 900 number told me.

The radio refered to was a RADIO COMPASS. They flew the wrong way (east
over the Atlantic), ran out of fuel and crashed into the ocean.
They didn't hear the weather reports which had the wind blowing East.
They were in a balloon. Do you really think someone is going to pay xxx a
minute for these things?
