Hi,

Does anyone know when the puzzle involving two people trying to send
something to each other using padlocked boxes first arose? If so, do
you also know who came up with it?

Thanks,

James McLaughlin.

I'm not sure, but I think it's an analogy someone came up with in the
cryptology field. You might be better off asking in a crypto newsgroup.

OK, I'll check sci.crypt, though I'm pretty sure the puzzle predated
PKC. Thanks!
