As far as I know, it is NOT the German version of the tasty French
pastry :-)
It is a truncation of crossword puzzle
like as if you say it extremely quickly

There might be a typo here. I've always said and heard "Crozzie." All part of
the great british tradition of butchering our language. (e.g. prezzie=present,
Chrimbo=Christmas and so on.)

Hi Marianne,

I think I used the word 'crozzle' in an ongoing thread
discussing the virtues of various setters featured in the British
newspaper 'The Guardian'. Crozzle is a contraction of CROssword
puZZLE, it's as simple as that. :~)
So, the puzzles that you solve in the NYT are 'crozzles', but
there are subtle differences between British and US styles, which may
be why you envision some of the clues discussed as 'different'. I
recommend you to the FAQ, which covers this in more detail.

Doesn't a Santa Crozzle come but once a year in Chinatown..??.

..or is it a French breakfast bun, as pronounced in Flatbush??
