The title of this contest is:
CROSS-COUNTRY RUN
Your task is to write a cryptic clue whose solution
is the name of a country, either the full formal name
or the shortened form used in everyday life. The country
need not be extant; clues for SIAM, ASSYRIA or even
CZECHOSLOVAKIA would be welcome.
The catch is - your clue should include in some way
the name of a different country. Two (deliberately
bad) examples:
Study capital of Mexico and box where
Greenland was once ruled from (7)
Some Wilbur machinations where the
Irrawaddy runs (5)
(Answers are DEN-M-ARK and BURMA; CHINA can be
found in the second clue)
I'm sure y'all can do better than those.
With your entry please say whether or not you can
moderate the next round. It's not hard; in fact this is
the easiest of the various competitions to moderate since
there's no software needed, just a final opinion.
Please give a full explanation of your clue.
As many entries per entrant are allowed as there
are different countries to clue.
Extra credit will be given for clues that are witty
and/or misleading, as well as for ingenious ways of
describing/including countries.
Email your clue(s) to rthe...@btconnect.com,
with ACC 227 somewhere in the subject. If I
don't acknowledge your entry within 24 hours,
please send it again (and again, ...). Note
that this is not the same address as the reply-to
on this post.
The closing date is 6:54pm GMT, Sunday, November 11th,
2007.
Happy clueing!
Roy
