question on water color and fish

I have bluegill and goldfish in a metal pond. It is stainless steel and not
supposed to rust. After the recent winter the water has turned significantly
red and two of my bluegill have jumped out to their deaths. Why is the water
red? Did they jump out because it was raining? There is enough food for them
in their.

Its a misconception that Stainless Steel wont rust,some grades are less
resistant ,Stain. 308 than others ,Stain. 316.
There are also many other grades.
the harder the surface is i.e. a cooking type frying pan (316+) the
less rust.

Whats the PH? acidic, <7.0 will cause it to rust faster.
