diagnosing disease help for beginners please!!

Blackmoors who died. A couple more have died recently the BM's all started
off showing signs of sluggishness, not swimming in a balanced way and then
died. The latest two have seemed a bit lethargic then disappeared to the
bottom of the pool and floated up dead. When I rang the aquarium about the
BM's the guy told me straight away, velvet disease so I raced over and
bought the blue (chloride?) solution that kills bacteria. Anyway when the
next fish got sick I immediately does the pond and he died anyway . I
realised that the salesman had not even asked me any symptoms, so I asked a
couple of friends who told me that some of the blackmoors symptoms could
have been velvet but they didn't have the goldy spots and they had found
that velvet disease could be cured with the same solution. My latest two
deaths I have noticed a few gold patches ( like I've heard velvet disease
has, but I had dosed the tank before this last one got sick a week ago. Does
anyone have any ideas and is there a way to effectively diagnose diseases

This is the time of year when you might see problems with your fish and/or
pond. Below is a form that can really help with a diagnosis and treatment.
