Hi,

We have a small pond, it's about a year old now, stocked with 20 Koi of
various colours, obtained from a friend, soon after the pond was ready, so
they have been in about 10/11 months. All the Koi are around the same size,
about 5 inches in length.

One Koi in particular is looking very lazy and generally under the weather
and out of sorts.

I noticed also, at the weekend that they were chasing each other about,
nudging, and generally being a nuisance to that particular individual.

This evening (Monday) that Koi looks as though it's scales on both sides
have been "pecked" at.

My first thoughts are that maybe it's a female, and the males are feeling
frisky and ganging up on her, maybe she's "Worn Out".

Other than that I'm at a loss and would appreciate some help A.S.A.P.

All the other Koi are fine, the Frog's look fine, and there are some
Tadpoles, so I reckon the waters OK

There's plenty of oxygenating weed, lilies and plenty of shade, the filter
system was cleaned about a week ago.

Were near Wisbech,Camb's, UK.

TIA
Alan Wanford

Others with more experience will answer you soon. :-)

But my first opinion is to get her out of the pond. Put in a tank so she
can rest and you can observe her and look for other illnesses.

Sounds like fish are starting to spawn, they sometimes damage each other
when doing this. How are they now?

Think you right my fish did the same and they were spawning they can damage
each other quite badly but it usually passes before too much damage is done.

add salt to 0.9 lbs per 100 gallons to help the spawning fish. or, get a 100 gallon
rubbermaid and bring damaged fish out to recover. be sure to net tanks or they will
jump. INgrid
