Hi folks,
I have a one year old pond with 4 "domestic" inexpensive small koi in it.
They have done very well all through last summer and survived a winter in
Vermont. They range from a metallic yellow ,cobalt blue and white, orange
and black speckled, and one solid white (with pink, flesh tones underneath).
The solid white koi seemed to have a more pronounced pinkish flesh tone
underneath as a spot on his/her head area that I kept an eye on to make sure
it wasn't a lesion or something else. None of the other fish have shown any
signs of illness. This spring, the spot seems a bit more pronounced and
maybe larger (though it's hard to tell, the fish are not that big) and a
darker pink tint, appearing more lesion like. The other fish however still
show no signs of any illness, etc. I am very hesitant to medicate the pond
if it's just an odd coloration on what is most likely a "hybrid" domestic
koi. I don't think catching it to isolate is feasible either. Has anyone
ever seen something like this? Any recommendations?
Thanks,
Scott from Vermont

I would go to Doc Johnson's web page, "The Koi Vet" and check with him. He
should be able to help you with your situation.

Hi Scott,
It sounds like the fish is stressed. I have a white fish that shows pinkish
or very pinkish when there is a problem with the pond. I agree with the
other poster that you should go to
koivet.com
and see what Doc Johnson says. we have found him to be reliable,
knowlegeable, and a really nice guy.
on a bus trip with midatlantic koi club we asked him how he got into fish
and he said he got tired of looking at cat & dog feces and wanted something
different in which to expand. And what a friend he has been to the 'fishy
set'.
Regards,
Nan

thanks Nan and MYFLSA,
I will look at his site. I did go there quickly and didn't see anything
exactly like my fish is exhibiting, but I will look again,
Thanks again,
Scott

I bought a small, roughly 4" completely white koi 2 years ago. Not only did it
get a funny looking spot on its head, it turned yellow. Oh well, it's kind of
cool looking. Or maybe you'd call it ugly. Anyway, it eats like a pig so I
suppose it's happy and healthy.

* He sure is! And I have great faith in what he says and writes. have you
seen the new book he's written with Rick hess of www.goldfishconnection.com
? It's fantastic and all in simple English anyone can understand.
Wait'll you see the pictures of GF in this book.... <drool>... :0)~

* Nothing like "expanding" into fish feces... :o) At least they don't
smell as bad.

And what a friend he has been to the 'fishy

* Amen!
