I have a 35mm slide projector assembly which as stopped advancing
properly. I've torn it apart, and have (I think) found the
culprit; on the "clutch" assembly, there is a spring loaded
lever which, when engaged (ie. viewing a slide), depresses the
spring and prevents contact with the motor gears. When released
(ie. advance to next slide) the spring forces it back to a
position where it does contact the motor gears, and forces a
single cycle to move to the next slide.

This clutch lever is "sticky", the spring cannot reliably cuase
it to rotate on it's axle.

What should I use for lubrication on this axle? The clutch lever
and axle both appear to be metal, but they also seem to contact
plastic parts of the assembly.

Pray tell, can you give me a brand, or a model? I'm having a
hard time picturing the mechanism. But offhand, I would suspect that
a not-too-thick lithium grease would be fine. It won't migrate to other
things, like your slides, and shouldn't melt in the heat from the lamp.

Paul.
