Hi

I would like to try taking 6x6 slides
but I have seen the price of new
6x6 projectors!!

Is possible to pick up medium format slide
projectors cheap second hand? Does anyone
have any recommendations or advice? Any useful
www links?

Thanks for any advice.

There are old units you can pick up that are not fan cooled or have
the autofeed mechanisms, you view one slide at a time , hand feed and
don't leave it in very long but they are around for $100 or so. I have
no idea where you could get one right now, a local camera store had
two a year or so ago. These things are 1950s-60s vintage, probably not
the greatest but will project a slde in 6x6. I would suggest going to
the next used camera show that comes around your area, bound to be
something at one of those.

Maybe someone else can offer a little more info,

I now and then see the Rollei P11 proector 2nd hand at about $300. It can
handle
both 24x36 and 6x6. But I don't know what quality you can expect from
that......
Some people says it is OK.

Kindermann makes some NOT very expensive 6x6 projectors ($700 or so). But a
P11 is probably better build.

The outdated Rollei P-11 is an excellent 6X6 and 35 mm. (both!) slide
projector that has exceptional optics and a selection of projection
lenses from normal to large hall types along with a zoom an separate
lenses for 35 mm. The problem is that they are a little prone to
mechanical problems, though they are fixable (I have fixed about 6 or 7
and have one myself). You must have slides in a magazine, however, to
project them. No single slide adapter. The P-11's appear on eBay
fairly often. Do not pay more than $500. There is also the Kinderman
which takes the same magazines but I am not familiar with it. TDC made
a 6X6 projector in the fifties; manual projection only and optics only
fair but the price should be much, much lower, say $75. There was also
a Golde 6X6 which took its own magazine. Hope this helps.

I picked up a second hand Kindermann Telefocus 66 (ie 6x6 projector) in the
UK for £350, I find it superb - no thrills but in terms of picture quality
a vast improvement over my Braun 35mm projector - but that's what you expect
with medium format :)

BTW This projector uses a magazine for 7x7 slide holders - which makes
viewing pictures very straight forward.

Could try Gnome Alphax Major (UK built) if you see one.
Reasonable lenses and optics, fan cooled, manual slide holders
(not very precise register). Early ones had 300w. 240v. bulbs,
later 150w. halogen with transformer. S/h c. GBP50-70 in UK
