Hi Mike,
with the H 500 CM the groundglass can be exchanged, the same for the
H 500 EL vs. H 500 ELM.

To be more precise, I think the difference is that the ground glass in
the 500CM's viewfinder can be replaced WITHOUT TOOLS.

The 500C's glass can also be replaced, but it requires quite a bit of
work.

Changing from the ground glass to an ACCUMAT (Made by MINOLTA) makes a big
difference to the view as well!

Mike,

I recently asked some of the same question that you are looking to anwser.
I bought a used 500 C/M with an 80C*T lens and a 12 back. If you haven't
already found the photo@.net web site you should check it out their is alot
of valuable information to be had their.

The other post are right. With the 500 C you can change the foucusing
screen, but it is highly recommended that you let a authorized service rep.
do the work. With the 500 C/M, you can easily change foucusing screens
yourself. The harder question is weather you need to or want to change the
screen. If you plan to mainly do outside/daylight work, then it may not
matter. If you like interior/low light work, then I would go for the 500
C/M. You can judge for you self, but for the price difference up front,
compared to what it will cost to have someone else replace the screen.

I also went for the 12 back's instead of the A12 which are supposed to be
easier to load. I am not a professional photographer. Speed was not my
concern in moving up to medium format and I feel this was on place that I
could save money!!!

If you live in a large city then see if you can rent or try it out for a
couple of days. Burn some film. Try the differenct lens and see what you
like. There are alot of good bargins and also some very bad ones. I bought
my setup for KEH.com. They were very helpful.

Send me a direct email if you have any other questions. They are fantastic
camera's. You will be happy with either model.

Good Luck
