The front lens element (focusing) on my Agfa Record and Zeiss Nettar are 32mm
and 35mm in diameter. I want to do some b/w with these cameras and I want to
use yellow and red filters. There is no thread so I guess I need some kind of
press fit. Can I get an adapter that will allow the larger filter to be used
with the smaller diameter lens? Can someone give me some advice on this...BTW
I already have the filters in 49mm if I could make them work.

Hi Jerry and Greetings to all...

In your shoes, I would look for press-fit adapters, possibly to a series
filter standard size, which I conveniently have listed for you thanks to
Bob Salomon - at: http://www.smu.edu/~rmonagha/bronfilters.html#series

Once you get to a series filter size, it should be easier to get a
threaded adapter to go with your standard 49mm filters, if that's what
you want to do.

However, you might also check EBAY and other sources which might have
odd-sized older filters offered for sale periodically; for a few dollars
you may be able to get the handful of filters you want and not tie down
your standard set.

If you are a user/abuser rather than collector ;-), you may find it just
as easy to epoxy on a threaded filter ring for use with or without
adapters, simply find desired size and bust out glass (carefully!) and
epoxy in place, duh! You can also epoxy up a standard bayonet to series
filter adapter, and use it to mount lens hoods and filters on the older
TLRs and the like (versus outrageous prices for "original" bayonet I etc.
hoods and filters ugh!).

My own interest has been to use press-fit adapters on the _rear_ of
lenses with larger sized filter threads (82mm and up to 122mm) as a much
cheaper way to provide filtering. In such cases, you can epoxy a filter
holder back there and save some serious $$$ on hard to find biggie
filters ;-)

good luck - bobm
