I have 2 Mamiya Press 23 Super bodies and a bunch of lenses. I am
looking for a Polaroid back for it, but some sources have told me that
Mamiya made Polaroid backs only for the Universal Press, and not for the
Press 23 Super. Does anyone have any information on this? If a
Polaroid back is available for my body, I will be interested in buying
one.

In article <33848A...@prodigy.net>,
those sources are correct. moreover, only the 75mm and 127mm lenses
for the mamiya press bodies have enough coverage for the 3.25" x 4.25"
polaroids. that's why they have a P after their designation,
like 75/5.6P and 127/4.7P. of course, if you are using it to
proof an exposure of 6x7 or 6x9, you may not care that the full
3x4 area of the polaroid is covered.

if you have a Super G (which is a Super 23 with Graflok back),
you might be able to find a Graflok polaroid back for it.

note that a polaroid back will cost you more than a universal body
anyway. the universal bodies can still mount Mamiya backs if you
have an M adapter for it.

it is unfortunate that the Mamiya Press cameras with rear movements
don't allow polaroids, since it would allow for proofing the depth of field
and focus, check for vignetting etc. when tilts or swings are used

note that polaroids are a positive material like a slide, and so if you
are using them to check exposure for a negative, you'll have to interpret
the results properly-- one is most worried about shadow detail in a
negative, whereas with a polaroid (or slide), one is most concerned
about blowing out the highlights.

You have been informed correctly. An adapter back that only fits the
Universal is needed.

See the user forum on the Mamiya Web Site. Also use deja news to search for
Mamiya Press. Some very informative threads on both.

Regards,
Mike

My Mamiya super press 23 has a Graflex Graflok back, apparently this was
an option. Backs for the RB series will fit.

Minor correction to the info you gave here: The Polaroid Backs for the
Mamiya Universal Press cameras mount directly to the body, not the
M-adapter. The roll film holders do, however, mount to the M-adapter
