Obviously, the film advance needs a service. The question is: can I do this
myself? Is it easy to get at? Will it likely just need lubrication?
I'm pretty handy and also quite adventurous, especially as the camera isn't
worth very much money, not enough to spend up on having it done
professionally, anyway. But it's a good performer and it seems a pity to
throw it away.
Any suggestions?

Well know problem with these cameras. What you can do is make sure the
back closes tightly. In the upper right corner of the camera back
opening is a metal pall, the back has to push that down when closed or
the advance won't work correctly. If that's ok it needs service. The
one I had overhauled for this problem cost me $50, that was a C330 but
this should be similar.

For the last few years that I used my C2 and C3's, I carried a small tool which
I shaped from a broken hacksaw blade. You could use a knife edge, but I
preferred to have something without a sharp edge. After I closed the back, I
would slide the edge into the narrow space between the closed back and the body
- right where the pall is located - and press in. At the same time, I would
start to slowly crank the film, checking to make sure that the counter had been
reset. It usually worked, and I continued to do this until I started with the
Hasselblads.
