After receiving my Mamiya 80mm lens back for repairs I decided to take a few
rolls with it and my newly purchased 50mm lens. The problem started on the
third roll in my C33. The film advance lever locked in an upright position
on advancing to the first frame. I tripped the lens manually and it advanced
on to the second frame but also locked up and I could not make the reverse
turn to complete the advance.
After tripping the lens again manually it advanced to the third frame and I
had no more trouble with the rest of the exposures. Thinking I neglected to
roll the film to the arrow mark I put in another roll, but had the same
results. Upon developing, the first two frames of each roll were blank.
Using a new roll and rewinding the spool by hand each time I tried 8 or 10
times to get it to advance properly but it always locked up. Do I have a
serious problem here or one that is easily fixed ? I think I have eliminated
any problems that I may have done to cause this. Is this a common problem
with Mamiya TLR's ? Expensive ? I am absolutely bummed about this ! I no
sooner get the lens fixed than the camera bites the dust. Any comments on
this or ideas on where this could be repaired ?
Thanks all, Richard

You mention "could not make the reverse turn to complete the advance". On
some TLR cameras you do make a reverse wind to cock the shutter. I haven't
used my Mamiya 330 and 220 TLRs in a long time, but I don't think you do
the reverse wind on those cameras. You just wind until it stops and then
shoot.

I have had the same problem with my C33os,
plus more...there are times when load the film and it winds all the way
through to the end of the roll...the front bottom trigger trips and
stays stuck...took it in and they tell me it's operator error....never
did this happen since 1995..but now it does it and they say operator
error....so I gave up on mine and let that camera sit,,,,,
but the problem you have ..I had and cost me 65.00 to fix....granted
that part got fixed but the operator part has not....

I had some similar problems (always after changing a lens).
I found some tips (and other Mamiya TLR info) at:
