We are having a terrible time with Marine Park Photo/MP Superstore. They
are refusing to provide credit for returned merchandise, alleging that the
Postal Service opened the package, removed one of the two items enclosed,
resealed the package undetectably, and sent it along to them. This, of
course, is absurd. Their customer service personnel have been frankly rude,
particularly their "General Manager" David Waters.

Obviously, we have filed a dispute with the credit card company, which is
still pending. We have also sent a letter to the "checkrated merchant"
people at Pop Photo, but Marine Park has already been removed as an
advertiser.

Avoid Marine Park, unless you enjoy dealing with thieves, and send your
business instead to the fine people at B&H or Adorama.

Their motto has always been - It's like getting mugged in the park. Add your
story to those inteh photo.net Cameras store section.

Rick, I'm curious. I'm sorry you've been screwed, it doesn't surprise me. But I
was wondering why you bought from them? If you know of B&H and Adoramas
reputation (I also add Central Camera-Chicago and Calumet Camera in Illinois)
why not them? And if you have access to this group why not ask in advance? I'm
not trying to be mean. I really am interested in what they did to entice you to
even CONSIDER them, let alone buy from them.

This has proven to be useless for me in the past. I think they are a
government subsidiary of the sleezy photo stores. They assume from the get go
that everything is your fault and the photo company is trying to appease you
anyway.

I was looking for a Pentax 28-70/4, which has been out of production for a
couple of years, and they had one. I could find no negative comments on the
web so I ordered from them. Big mistake.

You mean they *said* they had one :-(

By the way, in case you happen to know my sister Phyllis, please tell
her I said hello :-)

I'm surprised you couldn't find any negative comments about them. If you had
said you found nothing positive I would have believed you in a second. I hope
you add your experience to one of the mail order lists and let people know what
a great place they are. Good Luck

The problem is that these scam houses advertise very low prices. Even lower then
anything even B&H and Adorama has. People trying to save some money go to them.

I've been reading and not-reading this group for over 10 years and it's the
same list of 'usual suspects' when it comes to mail order scam artists. I
think Rick above deserves some of the blame for trying to get something for
nothing. This cannot be his first lesson in that. I'm actually surprised
that MP was removed from the 'checkrated' list, though from reading this
newsgroup you should be able to guess that that checkrated thing does not
mean much.

Also depressing is that MP is listed as one of the places to buy gear on
Forbes' best of the web list:

http://www.forbes.com/bow/b2c/category.jhtml?id=211

though they do make distinctions and that B&H was listed as the best. Can
someone (else) contact forbes.com and ask them to remove MP?
