Nah, it's junk. Send it to me so you don't have to dispose of it.
Seriously, this is a troll, right? Is this how you get you jollies? If not, do
you homework. Get a copy of Shutterbug magazine and check prices on similar
used equipment or go to ebay and check completed auctions.
If it hasn't been seriously abused, it should still be worth several
hundred dollars with motor. The 28 and 50mm lenses are probably in the
50-200 dollar range each, depending on type and condition. The 85, 180,
and 300mm lenses might be worth much more depending on which particular
lens they are (a 300mm f/2.8 AIS, for example, could be in the thousands,
if it's in good shape). A 180mm f/2.8 ED AIS is around $300 in bargain
condition (i.e. some scratches and chips, but mostly clean glass). I have
no idea what the underwater housing is worth.
Definitely check prices on Ebay and consider selling through them. Also
check KEH.com, who will buy your equipment, but you'll definitely get less
money there than with Ebay. I've had great results selling old gear
there. The important thing is to be honest about its condition and
provide photos of the equipment.
Good luck,
Paul
You have over $1,000 in used gear considering the lenses are in at least
good condition. You have a great friend for him just to give you that stuff.
Something smells fishy here.

If you take time to visit a couple of your local camera shops,
browse what they are asking for lens and/or the F3 body in the
same condition. You will likely get 70 to 80 percent of their
price if you wait for the right buyer to find your posting,
if you sell it on the Net.
Good luck....

come on, you didn't tell him about the Nikon Disposal Fee(tm); (they
passed some kind of regulation a few yrs back and now it costs you
money to properly dispose of old cameras, especially the nikons).
I'll waive the fee if you mail it to me this week. email me for details.

good advice; provide DETAILED photos and explain the exact condition
as best as possible. maybe ask a photostore to describe it and write
down what they say (if you're new to cameras). doing all this upfront
will ease the ebay process and the new buyer will be getting exactly
what he expects, with no hurt feelings on either side.
What you have there IS valuable, and you should NOT sell it before you
actually tried it out! This is GREAT equipment, dammit. If it was a
Leica (great equipment also, but extension costs are just to high AND
I don't like having $xxxxx on me while travelling!), I'd sell it to
get some Nikon or Minolta gear (so written so meant), but an F3 is
something almost everybody in this NG either would like to have or or
has and keeps.
IF you want to sell it, trade it for other photo equipment that suits
you, or else you are insulting your friend. period.
Anybody here telling you it's worthless belongs into one of those
categories:
-Benevolent Joker
-Troll
-Leica or Canon redneck (of course there are none in this NG)
-Somebody who wants to rip you off (!!!!)
-Somebody who never had an SLR, as everybody who has or had knows,
(though not everybody (including me) had an F3), what an F3 is about
and that it is valuable pro class gear even today.
-Somebody who is a high-tech freak who thinks everything that doesn't
have 10 gigs of Harddrive, 4 LCD displays, 45 terribly small knobs,
internet access, and needs 17 batteries, is bullshit.

Take a photography course. Then decide if you still want to sell it. This is the
one hell of a camera with a nice collection of lenses. It has a timeless
quality, the F3 is still in production after 20 years, making it perhaps the
most successful design in modern photography. Think twice before selling.

PS-maybe your right in that it may insult a friend to sell it without trying
it.

No; just send it to me to get rid of it.

Sure it's worth selling. It is a pro camera used by 80% of Nikon pros before
the autofocus cameras came out.
To get a feel for prices of used equipment, check the ads in Shutterbug
magazine.
Then sell it or trade it in on something you would rather have.
